OVERVIEW

The Defense Acquisition University is the one institution that touches nearly every member of the Defense Acquisition Workforce throughout all career stages. The university provides a full range of basic, intermediate, and advanced certification training, assignment-specific training, applied research, and continuous learning opportunities. The university also fosters professional development through mission assistance, rapid-deployment training on emerging acquisition initiatives, online knowledge-sharing tools, and continuous learning modules.

DAU’S NEEDS

  1. Full publishing support services for the Defense Acquisition Research Journal (ARJ) publication.
  2. General support services for the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L) publication.
  3. Graphic design and editorial staff who are able to work with subject matter experts, write technical articles, make accurate revisions to the copy, verify information in the material, ensure compliance with the editorial style guides, and provide complete graphic design services for the department.
  4. Coordination among subject matter experts for the peer-reviewed journal. Compliance with DAU publishing policies and standards.

SOLUTION

For this client, Schatz provided technical writers and editors, graphic designers and editorial assistance. Schatz provides full-time onsite staff, as well as offsite support. Collaboration with DAU staff is critical to the success of each project. Schatz maintains all graphic design standards and branding specifications. The finished products are provided in standard GPO form for printers. Management of this project requires highly qualified staff with a dedication to accuracy, quality control and communication. Because of the various unique technical needs in this department, providing a highly qualified staff is the highest priority. Schatz is made up of project teams of managers, writers, editors, graphic designers, and photographers. They also have full support positions of proofreaders, copyeditors, multimedia squads, and communications specialists.

Schatz’s recruiting and staffing accomplishments on this project have resulted in high praise from the director of the visual arts and press department and positive feedback.
